Cheung Chau!

the cycling trip we planned for yesterday was postponed cos the weather forecast said it was going to rain in sha tin. and so we took an impromptu trip to cheung chau, at the suggestion of our student ambassador who recommended that place when she heard i wanted to have seafood. =)

and so here it is again, a photo journal to chronicle the day....


a bright and cheery start to the day!


we were supposed to meet at 1045 at central MTR, but we were late, sindy (our student ambassador) was late too. missed the 1115 ferry - thank goodness we missed that, cos it's the "slow ferry" that would take us about an hour to get to cheung chau. hopped onto the 1145 "fast ferry" that took us half the time to get there. some of us were getting seasick, imagine if we have to be bouncing up and down the seas for an hour....

we finally got to cheung chau without puking =P first impression: although the buildings are still built very close to one another, at least you dun see those high rise buildings / apartments, and the air smells fresher for some reason. the people you see on the streets somehow give off a different vibe from those you see on hong kong island / kowloon. it feels much simpler here, the pace of life is slower, and the locals seem to know one another. it's good to get away from the hustle and bustle of an urban city sometimes. =) cuiyi was commenting that she can just manage a bakery here (we saw quite a few, higher frequency than in the area we stay), and live her retirement life here. =)

at cheung chau, we walked a lot, saw a lot, played a lot, laughed a lot, and ate A LOT. i know i know, you guys have been telling me to stop posting photos of food up here cos you get hungry just by looking at my blog. but i cant help it!! there's just so much to share! haha =P if i dun post food up, then you got nothing much to see already...rmb most of my money is spent on food? haha =P



they actually have an association for "aunties", ok middle-aged women sounds better. mum, you want to sign up for anything when you come visit me in may?? haha. ok i was just being lame -_-


if translated directly, the name should stand for "cheung chau convenience hospital". i thot that was quite interesting, so i took a photo of it...then a local told me it's not a hospital. i was -_- and i forgot to ask what is it then and why is the name that. gong gong -_-


the way they name their roads here in hong kong is quite interesting. the english name is usually just a direct translation of the cantonese and they usually just name it with whatever landmark / building there is. like what you see above, and there was a "secondary school road" on cheung chau. serious. haha. maybe they only have ONE secondary school there on cheung chau. imagine if it's singapore - we will have secondary school street 1 to 300 or sth? haha ok lame again. =P


cheung chau is also a popular getaway for locals, so there are a couple of booths right at the ferry terminal trying to sell you accommodation. i dunno what's the name of this place, but i think it should be the most decent place (this was the only B&B i saw, but i concluded based on the comparison i made with other buildings in sight =P) to stay should you stay over at cheung chau. we walked past the place on our way to the beach...

see the bowl of thing jinli is holding? it's called碗仔翅 - i would say it's like pseudo-shark's fin. and one mouthful from that bowl was all it took to make me make them all go back with me to the stall, cos i wanted to not just have a mouthful but a whole bowl of it =P

and this was where jinli satisfied her own craving for pig's blood (i had a go at it, and it actually doesnt taste as bad as i thot it would be! oh and it's cheap too! less than 1SGD for s SUPER big bowl!). and that's right, she had another serving of碗仔翅, so piggy lah. =P

and the place with all the yummy food we tasted - they sold much more than what i showed you here. i think this place is supposed to be quite good cos they have all the magazine features and stuff. most important thing: it's cheap lah =P
but of cos, we ate a lot more stuff.............


fishballs! finally, some Q-er fishballs!! i had the ones with the satay sauce - both cuiyi and jodi commented that it tasted like mee rebus. just before that, i bought some biscuits that cuiyi said taste like kok-zai back home. we must be starting to miss singapore already man....


jinli had the one that's supposed to be spicier. jodi doesnt take spicy stuff, go figure the convo between them =P


oh, this potatochips is quite interesting (like ME! haha. ok dun bish me), it comes in a whole long spiral, and you can add whatever spices or condiments to it. =)

and then one of the highlights of the day....SEAFOOD DINNER!



and the satisfied me, with the whole table full of remnants... =)

ok now that i am done with the food, i should go on to writing about PLAY. haha =P we had a super fun time riding on this trishaw thing....much more fun than i expected. and mind you, it wasnt easy to get the trishaw going cos it keeps tilting to the right!! so for the first part, cuiyi had to fetch me - sorry if i was too heavy from all the food i ate! =P cuiyi kept exclaiming, "very fun leh very fun leh! hahahhaa". how can i not try to get it moving the right way?? hahaa. and so, i finally managed to control the bike, but not without "lapses in concentration" you will soon see...haha =P




the rental for one trishaw was 20HKD an hour, which is relatively cheap if you think about it, and it's something you dun see in singapore so it's really kinda cool =P

and jinli asked me to take a photo of this cos the "lightning sign" reminds her of a particular political party back home..*ahem* i told you we are starting to miss home...

i was happily sitting on the trishaw as cuiyi cycled...and then i realised jinli, jodi and sindy were nowhere in sight. only after i switched with jinli that i realised why they were slow..it makes a whole lot of diff taking one person and two, glad i managed to take them for quite a distance! whopee =D

i dunno about you, but i think these videos are super hilarious! or maybe because we experienced it ourselves that's why we rmb the good times and laugh about them. haha. cuiyi and i laughed until want to peng4 when we were watching the videos she took.

phew, finally done with the cheung chau excursion...since we were at central already, i suggested we go mid-levels escalator, which we did and we walked over to lan kwai fong too. but no, we dint step into any of those pubs / bars / clubs, we merely went to look see look see =) soho / lan kwai fong area is really happening sia...


jodi was trying to tell cuiyi that even the school librarian is out at lan kwai fong. hahaha =P

alrite, i am finally done with the entry...spent a freaking 2 hours on it i think. but for the sake of my LARGE pool (yah right) of readers and our mums who look here for updates, it's worth it i guess. okok, yes i am just using this as an excuse to get away from work lah. tsk =P

i must have broken my own record for the most number of photos posted in an entry again. woah woah woah. cant imagine having to do this at least once every week. =P by the way, temperature here is getting lower...it's now 10 deg in kowloon, there was once i saw it was 8. BRRRR. oh, and when i label my post - it's the day i write the entry, not the day we do whatever i posted k? haha =P
